Schoolyard Re-opening

Mayor Bushnell presided over the re-opening of Redrum Elementary School last Wednesday afternoon accompanied by the owner of Gates Motel. Mr. Gates purchased the schoolyard for children of the guests of Gates Motel to have somewhere to study.

The schoolyard was deserted in the early 1900s after a series of brutal murders that took place there. However, Mr. Gates said that that is all in the past and he is convinced that guests will eagerly send their children there or that even adults may "go back to school" for a little vacation education. The schoolyard has not yet been cleaned and is still in the vegetated state it was in years ago and though guests were forbidden to enter the school because of its poor condition, reporters were given a special exemption to this rule.

The school halls are dark as the lights flicker on and off constantly and the windows of every room allow a cold draft to enter. The rooms are filled with dust and cause a sense of tightness and dryness in your throat. As you descend the stairs, you can smell a putrid odour and find yourself in a basement full of fungi.

Mr. Gates said that the school would be open within the next couple of weeks and though it will not yet be fit for schooling children, guests of Gates Motel are more than welcome to roam the school to get a glimpse of its history and to get a feel for the school. "It is rather unfortunate though, that people have been trying to break in here at night. There are no prized possessions or any valuable commodities in the school. It's just a plain simple run-down elementary school. But groups of gangsters have been breaking windows, picking at locked doors, trying in every means possible to make their way in here. I've even found recently drawn maps of the school, very detailed maps at that. I don't see the purpose of it but I have informed the police of the situation."

Chief Klein of the Redrum Police Force did not attempt to explain the break-ins at Redrum Elementary School but he did state that a 24-hour watch over the school has been instigated. "We shall attempt to stop all criminals from entering the school and to prevent any further damage to the school. If anyone has any information regarding the break-ins, they should contact me down at headquarters. We have no leads yet as to why anyone would want to break into the school, especially considering that the front door is not locked and has never been since the school was built. We will try, however, to find the truth."
