Redrum's facelift in progress

The town of Redrum has been in a state of furious upgrades. Construction workers have been darting to and fro, added little enhancements to old structures and architects have been seen studying over plans for entire new buildings.

Just a few short months ago, a cold wind blew into Redrum. Buildings were shut down, deemed unsafe to be occupied. Much of the town's life was drained as most public spaces were paradoxically cut off from the public.

City officials were dead quiet. Many speculated that they were just dead.

Mayor Bushnell finally spoke out and tried to rally financiers for a full-town rebuilding but plans fell through and rumours flew of citizens threatening to lynch the mayor, although no one spoke out beyond anonymity. Much of the town’s populace just watched and waited.

Then suddenly, the building began. Doors to closed facilities were propped open and people filed back into the community, stepping over woodchips and other loose evidence of the ongoing construction.

What remains to be seen however, is the re-opening of Redrum’s most notorious property: Gates Motel. Redrum’s police chief Klein visibly shuttered at the mention of the work being done on the lot in the north end of town.

“We’ve heard some screams, but no one has reported any construction accidents. Not yet at least, maybe after the motel is opened.” Klein was heard saying, in a bit of unusual sarcastic humour.

New Writer(s) Needed

Senior editors had to admit today that after moderate staff changes over the past year, the Redrum Times is in need of new blood. Indeed, even the chief editor considers his job as a secondary career.

"I'm a Redrum architect, not an editor", says Rog, who stepped back into the role following the quiet parting of the Redrum Times previous editor.

"I think I'm reasonably capable of doing the job, but right now I'm responsible for more than just editorial content. I'm also the only journalist. That's just too daunting and my output has suffered as a result."

Indeed, Rog has produced a startlingly low number of articles since taking up the reins again, in fact the number previous to this one was a dead zero. All of the staff at the floundering newspaper considered Rog's predecessor to the chief editor position to be much more capable. It's expected that most readers would agree. Regardless, Rog insists that the editorial position should not be up for grabs just yet. He argues that little has occurred in the town of Redrum lately and that the past few months have not been a worthy test of his editorial skills.

Still, with the major renovations going on in Redrum, the pace of newsworthy stories should increase, at least that's what Rog is anticipating.

"What I need are a few good writers, or perhaps just one good solid journalist who understands the nuances of our town very well."

Rog also outlined some basic submission requirements, in case any budding writers consider submitting articles:

  • Articles should be works appropriate for journalism, in a professional tone and reasonably correct tense.
  • Getting quotes from Redrum citizens and public officials is highly encouraged.
  • Length of articles should not exceed the format of this paper, as any archived articles can demonstrate.
  • Each article may (or may not) be accompanied by a corresponding photograph. Any photographs /graphics MUST be original non-copyrighted work of your own or used by permission from the photographer/creator.
  • Payment for articles will be made in Gameslate PowerPoints. Payment will be given only upon acceptance and not all submissions will be printed.
  • Articles should be sent in plain text by email to editor@gameslate.com No HTML or any other formatting please.

Rog recommended reading the Redrum Times archive for examples of the sort of articles and tone that the newspaper expected. He also gave one last hopeful comment, "Hopefully, someone will pick up the slack. I want to get back to my architectural work."
